Samuel Spike

I’m a strategist and curator working between the culture and technology industries, based in London, UK.

Previously I ran an experimental company called Fini with the artist Ed Fornieles. Part tech startup, part art studio, Fini developed products and artworks that brought different kinds of data to life as interactive avatars.

In 2021, I brokered the $5.4M sale of Sir Tim Berners-Lee’s World Wide Web source code at Sotheby’s.

I’m passionate about the potential of new technologies to change how art and culture are produced, funded and experienced. If you’re working on something in this space, I’d love to chat.

Incubated by Celestia, Forma is the first blockchain purpose-built for creative experimentation.

Fini was a venture-backed creative technology studio that brought data to life through interactive avatars, co-founded by myself, the artist Ed Fornieles, and former Cameo executive Jake Allen.

I oversaw product, strategy, operations, partnerships and fundraising.

Milestones:
  • $1.2M NFT sale in August 2022 (prior to company formation).
  • $780k capital raised from institutional and angel investors.
  • Developed Fini Finance, a financial portfolio tracking app, and Oom, a gamified chat app.
  • Brand partnerships with Hyundai, Coinbase, Rainbow, Zapper and Lens Protocol, generating $250k revenue.
  • Exhibited internationally at Centre Pompidou-Metz (France); Somerset House (UK); University of Arts Tokyo (Japan); Carlos/Ishikawa (UK).

Fingerprints was a global community that collected and commissioned artworks exploring the use of blockchain technology as a new artistic medium.

Founded in 2021, Fingerprints quickly amassed one of the most valuable collections of digital art in the world.

As the founding Artistic Director, I developed the curatorial criteria for the collection, oversaw commissions, organised exhibitions, and chaired the acquisitions committee.

JPG was the first online exhibitions and discovery platform for tokenised digital art, backed by Electric Capital and IDEO CoLab Ventures.

I co-founded the company with Trent Elmore and María Paula Fernandez and served in an advisory role.

I worked closely with Professor John David Rhodes, the Director of the Centre for Film and Screen at the University of Cambridge, to conceptualise a major exhibition on ‘the prop’ for the Fitzwilliam Museum.

Together we organised the symposium ‘The Prop: Between Cinema and Painting’ at the University of Cambridge in November 2020.
